Beautiful is what works. With this approach, the success story of prefabricated construction began in the 1920s. Craftsmen and artists came together in Dessau to combine their skills effectively. Under the name 'Bauhaus', the results are still regarded today as ground-breaking for the design of houses and their fittings.

Already at that time, the demand to create alternatives to the elaborate solid construction was very present. The inspiration for easy and quick construction came from the USA, where the gold digger settlements were built from ›prefabs‹. The tradition of prefabricated construction goes back even further with the Japanese, who are known for high-quality minimalism and have been using standardised elements for house construction since the 12th century.

The value of a prefabricated house

After the Second World War, prefabricated houses in particular ensured that people in our homeland found a roof over their heads again. Many joineries specialised in lightweight timber frame constructions that could be erected quickly and inexpensively.

To create living space, however, quantity takes precedence over quality. A trend that the industry itself is countering: in 1989 it founded the ›Qualitätsgemeinschaft Deutscher Fertigbau‹ (QDF – the German Prefabricated Housing Quality Collective). Since then, binding guidelines have secured the value of German prefabricated houses and at the same time ensured that building projects are affordable for many people.
